Latin professor Richard McClintock discovered lorem ipsum while reviewing this work. His theory of how it wound up becoming dummy text involves a typesetter needing to portray the different styles of different fonts sometime in the middle ages.

The typesetter wanted to use dummy text that couldn’t be deciphered so that the words themselves would have less of an affect on how the reader perceives the styles of the fonts. So, the typesetter used a page from De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum, scrambled the text and came up with what we now know as lorum ipsum.
